VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton baseball (12-25-1) faces regional foe Cornell (11-18-1) for the third time this spring when the two teams square off at 6:30 p.m. tonight at the Bearcats Baseball Complex.Â
Binghamton has now won two in a row after its 4-3 victory at St. Bonaventure yesterday. Senior first baseman
Luke Tevlin snapped a 3-3 tie with an RBI single in the fifth inning and the tandem of
Greg Satriale and
Joe Orlando held the Bonnies off the board for the final seven innings. Satriale (W, 1-0), a sophomore infielder with excellent pitching credentials, threw 2.1 shutout innings with four strikeouts to pick up his first collegiate win. Senior reliever Orlando then shut down the Bonnies over the final 4.2 innings. He allowed just one hit with three strikeouts to post his second save of the year.
Junior outfielder
Anthony Meduri and sophomore second baseman
Alex Baratta joined Tevlin with two hits apiece.
Tevlin leads the team with a .311 average. Meduri is hitting .301 with 14 RBI. Senior catcher
Jason Agresti has team-high 12 doubles and 20 RBIs.Â
Sophomore
Ben Anderson (0-2, 1.93 ERA) gets the start today.
The Bearcats are looking to spark momentum for the final push toward a postseason berth. Binghamton (7-11 AE) has some work to do to move into playoff position as the 2018 America East tournament is a six-team event and this spring all seven conference schools are eligible, meaning the seventh place team will not qualify. With six games remaining, BU sits 1.5 games behind Maine for the sixth spot. The two teams will play a pivotal three-game set this weekend up in Orono. Â Â Â
Cornell has won five of its last seven, including a series win over Harvard over the weekend. The Big Red are in sixth place in the eight-team Ivy League.
Junior right-hander Adam Saks (1-0, 4.85 ERA) gets the start eight days after beating the Bearcats here last Tuesday, 12-3. In that game, Saks went the first two innings of a pre-determined six-man rotation and didn't allow a hit. Senior catcher Ellis Bitar leads the team with a .304 average and 28 RBI. Bitar went 3-for-4 with three RBIs against BU pitching last week. Senior outfielder Dale Wickham leads the team in home runs (5) and has 27 RBI. The team is batting .247 and has a pitching ERA of 5.45.
Cornell leads the all-time series 23-15-1. Before last week's lopsided Cornell win, the teams settled for a 5-5 tie in Ithaca on April 10. Â
