Bearcat alum returns to guide sprinter and hurdlers

VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton track & field program has announced the hiring of Jesse Fuca as an assistant coach. A 2012 alumni of the university, Fuca has since coached at four collegiate programs, including three at the NCAA Division I level. At Binghamton, he will work with the sprinters and hurdlers.

During Fuca's four seasons with the Bearcats, the men's team was the runner up at the America East Indoor Championships three times (2009, 2010 & 2011) and at the conference outdoor meet three more times (2010, 2011 & 2012). He was a team captain, was twice named all-conference and capped his career by winning the America East title in the 110 hurdles his senior year.

After graduating from Binghamton, Fuca was a graduate assistant at Division III Catholic University, followed by stints at George Washington (2014-15), Xavier (2015-17) and Hartford (2017-18). In his most recent post, Fuca was the Hawks' recruiting coordinator and coached the America East women's outdoor pentathlon champion.

"I am excited to add Jesse to the Binghamton track and field staff," head coach Mike Thompson said. "He was a relentless competitor as an athlete and has had great success as a coach as well. As a Binghamton alum he already knows the campus and how our program operates, and I am looking forward to seeing our sprinters and hurdlers develop under his leadership."

"This is an incredible opportunity and I am very excited to return home and remain in the America East Conference," Fuca said. "I'm honored to be back in the Bearcat green and have the chance to give back to the program that helped shape my career. I want to thank Coach Thompson and the administration for bringing me on board and I can't wait to get started."

Fuca graduated cum laude from Binghamton with a degree in English. He was member of the National College Athlete Honor Society. In 2014, he earned his master's degree in secondary education from Catholic University.
