Volleyball drops matchup with Stony Brook in three sets

Bearcats fall to defending America East Champions

The Binghamton volleyball team fell in straight sets to Stony Brook Sunday afternoon in Vestal. The Bearcats are now 0-2 in America East play following a 25-16, 25-18, 25-19 loss to the reigning America East champions.

Tyra Wilson led the team with seven kills and a .357 hitting percentage. Seven other players had kills on the afternoon.

On the defensive end, Elis Gadelha, Wilson, and Kiara Adams each had a solo block. The team had nine total blocks compared to Stony Brook's seven.

Binghamton took a 3-0 lead to open the first frame, but quickly fell victim to a Stony Brook run. Trailing 10-9, the Sea Wolves put this one out of reach with a 9-1 run, and eventually won 25-16.

The second set was much of the same, as Stony Brook took a 9-3 lead. Kills by Wilson sandwiched by a kill from Francela Ulate made it 9-6, but Stony Brook went on a pair of runs late to widen the margin. A service ace by Emily Rail cut it to 22-18, but the Bearcats fell 25-18.

The Bearcats fell behind early in the final set, but made a run sparked by Wilson and Victoria Keghlian to take a 12-9 lead.

With the set tied at 18, the Sea Wolves went on a critical 8-1 run to close out the set and victory.

The Bearcats hit the road Friday for a match at New Hampshire. First serve is at 7 p.m.
