The Binghamton volleyball team fell in straight sets to Stony Brook Sunday afternoon in Vestal. The Bearcats are now 0-2 in America East play following a 25-16, 25-18, 25-19 loss to the reigning America East champions.
Tyra Wilson led the team with seven kills and a .357 hitting percentage. Seven other players had kills on the afternoon.
On the defensive end,
Elis Gadelha, Wilson, and
Kiara Adams each had a solo block. The team had nine total blocks compared to Stony Brook's seven.
Binghamton took a 3-0 lead to open the first frame, but quickly fell victim to a Stony Brook run. Trailing 10-9, the Sea Wolves put this one out of reach with a 9-1 run, and eventually won 25-16.
The second set was much of the same, as Stony Brook took a 9-3 lead. Kills by Wilson sandwiched by a kill from
Francela Ulate made it 9-6, but Stony Brook went on a pair of runs late to widen the margin. A service ace by
Emily Rail cut it to 22-18, but the Bearcats fell 25-18.
The Bearcats fell behind early in the final set, but made a run sparked by Wilson and
Victoria Keghlian to take a 12-9 lead.
With the set tied at 18, the Sea Wolves went on a critical 8-1 run to close out the set and victory.
The Bearcats hit the road Friday for a match at New Hampshire. First serve is at 7 p.m.
