VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton men's basketball (3-3) put five players in double figures and led for all but one minute in a convincing 88-73 victory over visiting Army West Point (2-3) Saturday afternoon at Dr. Bai Lee Court at the Events Center. The victory extended BU's win streak to three games, with three of the next four upcoming games at home.
Senior forward
Pierre Sarr posted a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds, sophomore guard
Sam Sessoms scored 12 of his 16 points in the second half and BU was plus 19 on the glass and got 28 points from the bench.   Â
"It was a really complete effort today," head coach
Tommy Dempsey said. "When we're sharing the offense, we're tough to guard because we have a lot of guys who naturally can put the ball in the basket and we spread the court and move the ball. That was the difference today. We also did a good job when they made a couple of runs ... of having the answers and making some shots. We're playing really good basketball over the last few games."Â
Freshman guard
Dan Petcash was a spark at the end of the first half. With BU ahead 31-28 with 4:29 left, Petcash scored the final eight points of the half and the 8-0 Bearcats run allowed them to open up a 42-31 lead at intermission. He hit a pair of 3-pointers and converted a fastbreak layup in-between to finish the half with 11 points.Â
Early in the second half, Army trimmed its deficit to seven before BU responded with a 17-6 run to stretch it back up to 18 points, 59-41, with 13:27 left. Four different players scored in that run, led by Sarr (7) and freshman guard
Brenton Mills (6). Army drew no closer than seven the rest of the way.Â
Mills wound up with 15 points, freshman center
Yarden Willis added 14 points (10 in second half) and Petcash wound up with 13 points.Â
The Bearcats stay home to host Division III opponent SUNY Oneonta on Tuesday.Â
