Bearcats rally for four goals to close the game, Passuello records thirteen saves in the net

Box Score SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Binghamton women's lacrosse team dropped it's season opener 15-5 at No. 15 Syracuse Tuesday evening. Junior goalie Taylor Passuello made 13 saves in the net holding the Orange to only six goals in the second half of the game.

"Today was a good learning opportunity for us and a chance to look at some areas we need more growth," head coach Stephanie Allen said. "It's tough to win a game playing that many minutes on defense. With that said, Taylor did a tremendous job between the pipes and the unit in front of her had some strong defensive series against a very talented Syracuse attack. We have a quick turn-around this week and will certainly focus on lengthening possessions and better decision making with the ball over the next couple days."

The Orange came out strong on the attack, but scored only nine goals on 27 shots in the first half. An aggressive Binghamton defense held them at nine, fueled by 10 saves by Passuello in the net. Lindsey Stephen scored the Bearcats first goal of the game off a feed from Emily Yoo with one second to go in the first, as the Bearcats went into the half trailing Syracuse 9-1.

The Orange slotted six straight at the start of the second, before freshman Emily Masera broke the run on an unassisted goal at 8:06 that sparked a closing 4-0 run to the game. The Bearcats controlled the remainder seven minutes of the game with goals from Amelia Biancardi, Sofia Afkham and Olivia Batista.

Stephen led the Bearcats with one goal and one assist, while Rebecca Golderman recorded four draw controls. Sophomore's Natasha Rahal and Sam Fama finished with three ground balls each on the defensive end.

The Bearcats next play host to Niagara for their home opener on Sunday, Feb. 17. The contest is set for a 1 p.m. start time at the Bearcats Sports Complex.
