Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse falls 16-10 to #18 Colgate

Licata records first hat-trick of the season, leads Bearcats with five points

VESTAL, N.Y. - The Binghamton men's lacrosse team fell 16-10 to #18 Colgate in its season opener Saturday afternoon. Senior Joe Licata led the charge for the Bearcats, recording a hat-trick while adding two assists.

"Colgate is a ranked team for a reason," head coach Kevin McKeown said. "I think we played well today, and we also got a look at some areas we need to improve. I don't know if we did the best at using our 80 seconds of shot clock. It definitely is a faster game and it's exciting. We're trying to play a little faster and we saw some goals from our guys in transition early in the game which were great, but in the end we didn't make enough plays."

Highlights

  • The Bearcats jumped to an early lead, scoring two goals in the first two minutes of play. Drew Furlong scored first for the Bearcats off an assist from Jack Sullivan. Kevin Winkoff netted Binghamton's second goal at 13:11 off a feed from Sean Makar.
  • The Bearcats ended the first period tied at four with Colgate, as Binghamton saw two goals from Licata to finish out the first 15 minutes.
  • Colgate started the second period on a 3-0 run, before Griffin Konen scored off a feed from Kyle Stemke to break their momentum.
  • Licata notched his third goal in the third period off a pass from Konen.
  • The Bearcats outscored Colgate 4-2 in the final period, seeing goals from Sean Makar, Konen, Kevin Winkoff and John Perotto.
  • Sullivan recorded four face-off wins and picked up five ground balls.
  • Tyler James also recorded four face-off wins.
