STORY LINES
- Binghamton (6-7) split four games this past weekend at the James Madison Invitational. Freshman second baseman
Marissa Braito batted a team-best .455 during the weekend and drove in three runs. Freshman outfielder
Chloe Morgan hit .400 while sophomore outfielder
Hannah Lyons homered and finished with a .364 average at the plate.
- For the season, Lyons leads the Bearcats with a .324 batting average. Sophomore shortstop
Makayla Alvarez is first on the team with three home runs and eight RBI. Junior pitcher
Rayn Gibson is 3-3 with a career-best 2.64 ERA.
- Virginia Tech (21-4) is currently ranked No. 25 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Poll and is receiving votes in the NFCA/USA Today Poll. The Hokies are coming off a three-game sweep at N.C. State by scores of 4-1, 12-2 and 1-0.
- Darby Trull leads the Hokies with a .455 batting average. She is one of three Virginia Tech players batting over .400. Kelsi Bennett (.418) has a team-high six home runs while Emma Strouth (.400) has driven in a team-best 27 runs.
- This marks the first-ever meeting between Binghamton and Virginia Tech in softball.
Virginia Tech is the second nationally-ranked opponent the Bearcats face on their current Spring Break trip. Binghamton played No. 22 James Madison this past Saturday.
- Including Virginia Tech, Binghamton has squared off against six schools from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), during its 18-year Division I era. In addition to the Hokies, the Bearcats have met Maryland (an ACC school until 2012), Virginia, Boston College, North Carolina and Syracuse. Binghamton's last win over an ACC team was a 2-1 triumph over the Orange on May 3, 2016.
- Braito carries a team-best, five-game hitting streak heading into the doubleheader at Virginia Tech. Morgan, meanwhile, has reached base safely in six straight games.
