VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton baseball gets its second dose of the Big Ten when the Bearcats (8-9) face Penn State (13-6) Tuesday night in Happy Valley. The Bearcats and Nittany Lions meet at 6:30 p.m. at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

Binghamton, which opened the spring with three games against No. 17 Michigan, will face Penn State for the fourth time in eight years. The last time they met was on April 10, 2017 when BU posted a 6-3 road win. Penn State won the previous two games, 8-2 in 2012 and 5-2 in 2016. Last year's scheduled game was canceled due to inclement weather. Binghamton is 1-7 all-time against the Big Ten, having also played Nebraska (2014) and Minnesota (2016) during NCAA Regional play.

On Sunday, the Bearcats split a home doubleheader with Maine to start America East play. Binghamton dropped the opener 8-0 before winning the nightcap 4-1. The Bearcats went 2-2 last week after splitting two games at Kennesaw State. The team has won seven of its last 10 games, thanks to a five-game win streak. Binghamton is hitting .234 as a team and has a conference-best 5.32 pitching ERA.

Junior second baseman Alex Baratta leads the team with a .333 average. Sophomore center fielder Shane Marshall hit .600 last week (9-for-15) and raised his average to .319. Baratta, Marshall and senior designated hitter Sean Trenholm share the RBI lead with eight apiece.

Sophomore right-hander Luke Dziados (0-1, 4.15 ERA) will get his second start of the spring.

Penn State is off to its best start in 19 years. The Nittany Lions dropped a three-game Big Ten series to Minnesota over the weekend but before that, had won five in a row, including a three-game sweep of fellow America East member UMass Lowell. Penn State is hitting .231 as a team and has a 3.69 pitching ERA. Sophomore left fielder Kris Kremer leads the team with nine extra-base hits and 14 RBI.

The Nittany Lions will throw sophomore right-hander Cole Bartels (0-0, 10.80 ERA).
