Men's Lacrosse Falls to Stony Brook 13-6

Konen leads the offense with two goals on the night

STONY BROOK, N.Y. - The Binghamton men's lacrosse team (0-8, 0-2 AE) fell to Stony Brook (5-4, 2-1 AE) 13-6 Friday night at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium. Griffin Konen led the way for the Bearcats with two goals on the night, while Kevin Carbone and Robert Martin totaled for 13 saves in the net.

"Stony Brook played a great game tonight," head coach Kevin McKeown said. "We didn't do a good enough job in the ground ball battle. We need to stick together as a group and get ready for UMBC on Saturday."

Stony Brook came out to a hot start, scoring three unanswered goals through the first period. Binghamton got on the board with just 12 seconds to go in the first with an unassisted goal from Sean Makar for his sixth of the season, as the Seawolves led 3-1 at the end of the first period.

Konen, who leads the Bearcats in scoring with 13 goals this season, scored Binghamton's second goal of the game at 5:26 in the second. Despite Martin's seven saves in the net, the Seawolves added four more goals as the period ran out, taking a 7-2 lead into halftime.

Kevin Winkoff broke a scoreless four minutes into the third period, tightening the score 7-3 with his fifth goal of the season. William Talbot-Shere added another for Binghamton off an assist from Joe Licata to close out the third period, trailing Stony Brook 10-4.

The Bearcats added two more goals in the fourth period, as T.J. Tiernan scored his ninth of the season before Konen scored his second of the game off an assist from Ryan Winkoff. Stony Brook added three prior, securing a 13-6 win in the conference matchup.

The Bearcats are back in action on Saturday, Apr. 6 when they travel to UMBC for a 12 p.m. America East contest.
