VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton baseball plays its fourth straight home game when the Bearcats (14-14) host Marist (14-19) in a non-conference game at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Baseball Complex. Binghamton has won four of its last six games.Â
Over the weekend, BU dropped two of three to league-leading Stony Brook and currently stand in fifth place in the America East standings with five conference series' remaining in the regular season. The Bearcats are just 1.5 games out of second place, however, in the crowded standings.Â
The Bearcats are batting .265 as a team (second in AE) and lead the conference with a 4.56 pitching ERA.
Junior second baseman
Alex Baratta leads the team and ranks third in the conference with a .365 batting average. Sophomore center fielder
Shane Marshall has a team-high 21 RBI and is hitting .330, though he will miss some time with an injury. Junior left fielder
Daniel Franchi is hitting .330 with a team-best 24 runs scored. Senior right fielder
Sean Trenholm is hitting .320 and has a team-best 21 RBI.Â
Sophomore
Luke Dziados (0-1, 3.93 ERA) will make his fifth start of the season, though several other Bearcats will likely see innings.Â
Marist has dropped three of its last four games, though the Red Foxes are 5-4 and in fifth place (of 11) in the MAAC. Last Wednesday, Marist lost 8-3 at fellow America East school Hartford. Albany and UMass Lowell also own victories over the Red Foxes this spring. The team is hitting .280 and has belted 27 home runs. They have a 4.99 pitching ERA.Â
Junior designated hitter Tyler Kapuscinski leads the team with a .390 average. Senior second baseman Anthony Lazar is hitting .315 with 15 extra-base hits. Senior outfielder Frankie Gregoire has team-highs of nine home runs and 31 RBI. Freshman right-hander Erubiel Candelario (1-3, 4.58 ERA) will make his second collegiate start against the Bearcats. Â
The Bearcats dropped a doubleheader at Marist last year but are undefeated in their last three home games (2-0-1) against the Red Foxes.Â
