Men’s Lacrosse Falls to Sacred Heart 17-9

Konen scores twice, Carbone makes 19 saves in the net

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Binghamton University men's lacrosse team (0-11, 0-4 AE) lost to Sacred Heart (8-5, 3-2 NEC) 17-9 Tuesday evening at Campus Field. Griffin Konen led the team with two goals on the day while Kevin Carbone made 19 saves in the net. William Talbot-Shere tallied one goal, recording four assists in the game for a career-high.

"In the first half, I thought we made as many good plays as we had in a half of lacrosse all year," head coach Kevin McKeown said. "The problem was we made some costly mistakes that didn't balance those good plays on the scoreboard for us. The second half got away from us a little bit. We will continue to fight to get better in preparation for senior day against Hartford on Saturday. "

Highlights
  • After two Sacred Heart goals to start the game, Kyle Stemke got the Bearcats on the board off an assist from Talbot-Shere. Talbot-Shere responded to a third Big Red goal shortly after, with Konen following suit. The Bearcats and SHU went into the second quarter tied 3-3.
  • Sacred Heart scored six in the second half to Binghamton's three, as the Bearcats saw goals from Kevin Winkoff, Andrew Arce and a man-up goal from Licata to end the half trailing the Big Red by three.
  • T.J. Tiernan scored just a minute into the third quarter off Licata's second assist of the day to tighten the score 9-7. Sacred Heart closed out the third with four goals to Binghamton's one, extending its lead 13-7.
  • Konen scored his second of the day in the fourth quarter off of Talbot-Shere's final assist of the game. Anthony Cappola added one final goal for Binghamton with just 1:20 to play in the game, but fell 17-9 to Sacred Heart.
