VESTAL, N.Y. - Coming off back-to-back double-digit offensive outputs, Binghamton baseball begins a stretch of five straight non-conference games when the Bearcats (10-11) play at Bucknell (8-20) Wednesday night in Lewisburg, Pa. Binghamton and the Patriot League member Bison will square off at 3:30 p.m. at Depew Field.
The Bearcats took two of three from Albany last weekend, putting up 11 runs and then 15 runs in the final two games. The surging offense now has reached double-digit runs four times in the last 10 games.Â
Senior outfielder
Sean Trenholm is this week's America East Player of the Week and the University's Student-Athlete of the Week after a huge four-game set last week. Trenholm hit .500 with eight RBI, including a career-high five in the Game 3 win over Albany. He is fourth in the conference in batting (.367) and leads the Bearcats with 16 RBI this spring.
Junior second baseman
Alex Baratta hit .533 in the four games last week and he leads the team (and is third in the AE) with a .381 average. Sophomore center fielder
Shane Marshall (.319, 14 RBI) and junior left fielder
Daniel Franchi (.317, 11 RBI) give the Bearcats four players with double-digit RBI totals.Â
The BU pitching staff has a 4.85 ERA - best in the America East. Sophomore right-hander
Luke Dziados (0-1, 3.38 ERA) will make his third start of the season on Wednesday. In his last start, Dziados worked two scoreless innings against Big Ten member Penn State last Tuesday.Â
Bucknell plays Tuesday night at Penn State before welcoming the Bearcats on Wednesday. The Bison will have played eight more games than BU when they meet. The team was picked to finish third (of six) in the Patriot League this year (behind Army and Navy). Seven of the team's 20 losses this year have come against the two service academies. Four preseason all-conference picks return from a 17-win team of a year ago. Â
Binghamton leads the all-time series 8-6. Last year, BU posted a 9-6 win in Lewisburg. The Bearcats have won three in a row after Bucknell had won three of the previous four head-to-head matchups.Â
