VESTAL, N.Y. - The Binghamton volleyball team won the opening set against Hartford Sunday afternoon, but relinquished three straight in a 3-1 loss to the Hawks. In the 26-24, 20-25, 21-25, 16-25 defeat, Kiara Adams had a career-high 24 digs.
Three Bearcats had double-digit kills, with Stefana Stan's 12 leading the way. Annie Bart and Elis Gadelha each had 10. Anna Sprys had four blocks defensively.
The first set opened in favor of BU, as the team took an early 15-7 lead. The visitors would rally back, eventually tying the set at 24, before Binghamton went on to score two straight points, capped by a kill from Stan, to take the frame.
The Hawks led the second set from the start, despite Binghamton making a late run to tighten it up. After trailing 15-6, the Bearcats cut it to as close as 21-19 before Hartford scored four of the set's final five points.
The third set went back-and-forth, as Binghamton led as late as 19-18. Following a Hartford timeout, the Hawks went on a critical 5-0 to take a 23-19 lead. Four points later, the visitors took a 2-1 lead.
In the fourth set, BU had an early 8-5 lead, but the Hawks rallied to take the set 25-16, sparked by an 8-2 run.
The Bearcats will now hit the road for two America East contests, starting with UMBC Friday evening. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
