Volleyball falls at Stony Brook 3-0

Bearcats drops fourth straight match, Sprys leads BU with six kills

STONY BROOK, N.Y. - The Binghamton volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Stony Brook Sunday afternoon, falling to 2-4 in America East play. Despite keeping the first frame close, the Bearcats return home after a 19-25, 14-25, 11-25 defeat.

Anna Sprys led the team with six kills on just 13 swings, and Emily Rail added nine digs. Annie Bart and Sydney Aguirre added eight and seven digs respectively. As a team, BU had 40 kills, which was the same total that Stony Brook accumulated.

The first set went back-and-forth in the early going, but Stony Brook used a 5-0 run to make it 14-9. A few runs by Binghamton kept it close, but the hosts were able to take the set, 25-19.

The SeaWolves were able to grab an early lead in the second, which proved to be enough to take a 2-0 lead in the match. The Bearcats showed some fight, trimming a 13-5 deficit to 15-11, but an 8-1 run by the hosts put the set away.

The third set was highlighted by Stony Brook's defense, who did not relinquish a kill in the 25-11 win.

The Bearcats will return home to face UMBC on Sunday, October 24. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
