Box Score VESTAL, N.Y. – Sebastian Paz scored with just 2:28 left in regulation as Bucknell (3-6-2) came back to tie Binghamton (7-2-1) in a non-conference men's soccer game on Tuesday evening at the Bearcats Sports Complex. Despite the draw, the Bearcats are still unbeaten in their last four matches.
Paz took a pass from Jack Roberto on the right side of the box. In one motion, he spun around a Binghamton defender and hammered the ball into the back of the net. It was the first goal the Bearcats had allowed after three consecutive shutout victories.
Up until Paz's goal, the Bearcats had dominated play for most of the match. They out shot the Bison 16-7 and had several chances to blow the game open.
"We are really disappointed," head coach
Paul Marco said. "I thought we played really well in the first half and could have had a few more goals than what we did. I'm disappointed that we conceded a goal as late as we did but it was a terrific strike by their guy."
Binghamton got on the board in the 20th minute when junior back
Michael Bush head in a corner kick by graduate student midfielder
Noah Luescher. It was first goal of the season and Luescher's team-best second helper of the year.
In the second half, the Bearcats had eight total shots, several from close range. Their best chance to score came when junior forward
Ethan Homler's shot hit the post in the 64th minute.
The two teams each had three shots during the two 10-minute sudden-death overtime periods.
"Overall, I thought the guys played hard but we weren't good enough in front of the goal," Marco said. "That was the difference in the game."
Redshirt junior goalkeeper
P.J. Parker finished with a pair of saves.
Binghamton, which is now ranked third in the United Soccer Coaches (USC) Northeast Region Poll, hosts a New Hampshire team that is ranked sixth in the USC National Poll. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. on Saturday as part of the university's Homecoming Weekend.
