VESTAL, N.Y. - Visiting Marist (4-4) shot 61 percent in the second half and pulled away from Binghamton men's basketball (2-6) 64-51 Wednesday night at Dr. Bai Lee Court at the Events Center.Â
The Red Foxes used a 14-3 run spanning 7+ minutes to take a 43-32 lead midway through the second half. Over the game's final 10 minutes, BU couldn't draw closer than seven points. Marist, picked to finish third in the MAAC, poured in 34 points in the paint.
"We knew Marist was going to be a physical team and I don't think we did a good job of matching their physicality," head coach
Levell Sanders said. "They also scored 19 points off our turnovers and it's hard to win when you turn the ball over like that."
Junior center
Ogheneyole Akuwovo nearly had a double-double with 10 points, nine rebounds and three blocks. Junior forward
Christian Hinckson narrowly missed his own double-double with 10 points and nine boards. Binghamton enjoyed a 48-32 advantage on the glass but after opening the game with a hot hand (making 6-of-7), they shot just 32 percent for the game.
The Bearcats led 19-12 more than 12 minutes into the game before both offenses slowed. The teams combined for just 17 points over the final eight minutes of the half and exited the court tied at 24-24.Â
Binghamton continues its five-game homestand by hosting SUNY Oneonta at 2 p.m. Saturday. At halftime of the game, the school will introduce its Hall of Fame Classes of
2020 and
2021. Â
