Softball Opens AE Play at Stony Brook

Bearcats and Seawolves to play 1 p.m. DH Saturday, Noon game Sunday

STORY LINES

- Binghamton (2-0, 0-0 AE) swept its season-opening doubleheader against St. Bonaventure 8-0 (5) and 7-3 last Sunday at the Bearcats Sports Complex. Three Bearcat pitchers (senior Rayn Gibson and juniors Sophia Pappas and Morgan Bienkowski) combined to throw a no hitter in the opening game. Pappas also drove in a team-best five RBI during the doubleheader while senior first baseman Alex Guay had three RBI in the opener.

- Junior second baseman Marissa Braito is batting a team-best .600 so far this season, having gone 3-for-5 in the doubleheader against St. Bonaventure. Pappas is batting .500 (2-for-4) while senior catcher Sara Herskowitz is hitting .400 (2-for-5) and has scored a team-best three times.

- Stony Brook (11-5, 0-0 AE) swept Fairleigh Dickinson in a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday afternoon, winning by scores of 9-0 and 8-0. Dawn Bodrug and Shelbi Denman each tossed a complete-game shutout.

- Melissa Rahrich leads the Seawolves with a .420 batting average, three home runs and 14 RBI. She is also 4-2 on the mound. Dawn Bodrug is 6-2 with a team-best 1.40 ERA and three shutouts.

- Stony Brook leads the all-time series 38-24. The Bearcats, however, took two out of three games in the most recent series in 2019. Gibson went 2-0 in that series with 18 strikeouts and a 1.00 ERA.
