Men’s Lacrosse Falls to Hartford 8-7

McBeth leads Bearcats with five points; Dolan makes 16 saves

VESTAL, N.Y. -- Binghamton men's lacrosse (3-3, 3-3 AE) fell behind 7-2 after one quarter and couldn't recover in an 8-7 loss to Hartford (1-5, 1-5 AE) Saturday afternoon at the Bearcats Sports Complex.

"We didn't come out and play the way we wanted to," head coach Kevin McKeown said. "We had a slow start today and Hartford came out firing. Coming back from halftime we showed a lot of grit but games are 60 minutes and Hartford played well enough to get the win today."

Sophomore midfielder Ryan McBeth led the way for the Bearcats with three goals and two assists in the loss.

Hartford jumped out of the gate with a 4-0 run until Thomas Greenblatt finished off a pass from McBeth to make it 4-1. The Hawks tailed three more in the first period. The period ended with a Kevin Winkoff goal off of a Greenblatt assist, as the Hawks took a 7-2 lead into the second period.

Hartford scored their eighth and final goal of the game to start the second period. Following the Hawks goal, freshmen faceoff specialist Ross Chazanow won the draw, scooped the ground ball and connected on a fastbreak opportunity. The remaining of the second quarter consisted of defensive battles that led to the break.

After a mostly defense controlled third period, freshman Anthony Todaro assisted McBeth's first goal of the game during a man-up opportunity to narrow Hartfords lead 8-4. The assist was Todaro's first of the season.

McBeth got the fourth period rolling with back-to-back goals. Trailing 8-6, goalie Teddy Dolan and the Bearcat's defense continued to stifle the Hawks offensive efforts. With 43 seconds remaining, McBeth's second-half hot stick found attack Justin Roderka to close the gap 8-7. Following the goal, Chazanow won the faceoff for Binghamton but couldn't get offensive momentum before time expired.

Hartford out-shot Binghamton 38-29 and won 12-of-19 faceoffs to give them the advantage in the contest.

Dolan finished the game with 16 saves.

The Bearcats hit the road to take on Stony Brook next Friday night.
