Men’s Lacrosse Edges Vermont 10-7

Dolan with 15 saves to hold off the Catamounts

VESTAL, N.Y. -- The Binghamton University men's lacrosse team (4-4, 4-4 AE) rallied from behind to beat the University of Vermont (5-4, 5-2 AE) 10-7 this afternoon at the Bearcats Sports Complex in Vestal. Junior attacker Kevin Winkoff and sophomore midfielder Thomas Greenblatt combined for four goals in the final period to seal the Bearcats win.

"I was really proud to see our seniors lead us today," head coach Kevin McKeown said. "We didn't start the game great but Teddy Dolan kept us in it early with some big saves. I think the guys settled in a little bit and got into the flow of the game better in the second period. We did a great job sharing the ball on offense and came out with the win."

Senior attackman William Talbott-Shere opened the first period with a goal, followed by two quick scores from Vermont. The Bearcats took advantage of a Vermont penalty at the start of the second period, as junior attackman Justin Roderka notched a man-up goal off a feed from sophomore midfielder Ryan McBeth. Bearcats took their first lead of the game after Daniel MacKinney drove from behind the cage, connecting on a no-look shot for the score. Late in the second period, the Catamounts scored back-to-back goals to take the 4-3 edge heading into halftime.

Senior defenseman Kyle Tiernan caused a huge turnover to start the third period, picked up the ground ball and assisted freshman defender Max Verch on his first goal of his career for the Bearcats. Following a Vermont goal, Talbott-Shere tallied his second goal of the game. The Catamounts retaliated with two more scores before senior midfielder Sean Makar made his first goal of the season to close the gap 7-6.

Winkoff started the final period on a hot streak, tagging on two goals to put Binghamton back ahead. With 9:14 remaining in regulation, Greenblatt hit a laser to elevate the Bearcats lead to two. The Catamounts had several opportunities to score late in the game but the Bearcat's defense held strong. With under a minute to play, Vermont's defense pulled the goalie to double team Greenblatt, but the midfielder escaped and executed on the open cage. BU walked away with the 10-7 victory over Vermont.

Binghamton's redshirt sophomore goalie Teddy Dolan made 15 saves to keep the Catamounts at bay.

The Bearcats hit the road to take on UMass Lowell for their regular season finale Saturday, April 30 at Cushing Field.
