BALTIMORE, MD. - The Binghamton volleyball team took on Navy in its first non-conference match since 2019, dropping the contest in three sets. The Mids capitalized on early runs in each of the sets, and won 25-17, 25-14, 25-14.
Emily Rail led the way for BU defensively, tallying 10 digs. Stephanie Gatto and Stefana Stan added four kills apiece on the offensive end.Â
In the first set, the two sides remained tied in the early going, before a Navy 6-0 run to make it 13-7. The deficit would remain the same throughout the frame, despite offensive production by Gatto and Victoria Erwat later on. Navy closed out the set on a Binghamton service error to take it, 25-17.
The Mids opened an early 11-1 lead in the second set before BU rallied back with five of the next six points. Back-to-back aces by Tyra Wilson made the score 23-14, but Navy scored the final two points of the set to lead 2-0.
The final set saw Navy open up another lead, this time a 9-2 advantage. BU weathered the storm with two runs, sparked by middle blockers Wilson and Anna Sprys before the Mids scored three of the final four points in the set to take the match.
Sydney Aguirre, Annie Bart and Carly Powell found the stat sheet in their debuts, all recording multiple digs. Bart added a kill in the first set. Victoria Erwat had a career-high three kills.
Binghamton will take on Morgan State tomorrow at 10 a.m., followed by a nightcap against Towson at 6:30 p.m. Streaming will be available for the contest against Morgan State.
