PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Binghamton volleyball team split two matches to cap off the Friar Volleyball Classic Saturday afternoon. The Bearcats were bested by Providence 15-25, 25-22, 8-25, 17-25 before taking down St. Peters 25-19, 25-16, 29-27.

Anna Sprys had an exceptional day with two solid matches at the net, while
Stefana Stan was constantly getting the kills we needed from the outside," head coach
Glenn Kiriyama said. "We are on the right path and continuing to make progress."
The Bearcats were led offensively by Stan, who notched double digit kills in every match over the weekend. The sophomore registered 25 in Saturday's two matches, adding a strong .313 hitting percentage against the Peacocks. Sprys had 16 kills over the matches without a single error whileÂ
Victoria Erwat added 13 kills against St. Peters with a .292 hitting percentage.
Kiara Adams had 65 assists on the day (33 against Providence, 32 against St. Peters).Â
Against the Peacocks, BU was able to capitalize on its opponents errors early, then put them away late. The first set was tight early before Binghamton used a run to close out the frame.
The second set was sparked by Erwat, who registered seven kills in the set. The Bearcats couldn't be stopped early, taking a 15-3 lead, and were able to cruise to the 25-16 win.
The final set continued to be controlled by Binghamton, before St. Peters battled back to tie it up late. The final 12 points of the frame went back-and-forth, with Erwat and
Anna Sprys contributing clutch kills. The clinching point came on an attack error to put away the win.
In the team's first match, Providence was able to win the opening set before BU stormed back to take the second. The hosts were able to put away the final two sets to take the win.
Stan and Sprys were awarded to the All-Tournament Team.
Binghamton continues non-conference play Wednesday against Siena on Wednesday, September 15. Opening serve is set for 6 p.m. in Loudonville.
