Women's soccer has test Sunday at Lowell

Bearcats and River Hawks battle in rematch of spring semifinal; kickoff at 3:30 p.m.

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton women's soccer (5-4-1, 1-0 America East) will carry a three-game win streak into Sunday's showdown at UMass Lowell (4-3-1, 1-0 AE). The top-tier teams will square off at 3:30 p.m. at Cushing Field in a replay of last spring's conference semifinal that BU won in overtime.

The Bearcats are riding the momentum of their 1-0 overtime victory over Vermont in the team's conference opener last Sunday. Leading scorer Maya Anand netted the game-winner in the 103rd minute after a nice feed from freshman midfielder Maria Poulos. In back, senior keeper Haylee Poltorak made five saves to record her fourth shutout of the season. Binghamton has now outscored its last three opponents by a combined 6-1 margin.

Anand leads the America East in game-winning goals (4) and is tied for the lead in both goals (6) and points (13). Junior midfielder Olivia McKnight is tied for fourth in both goals (4) and points (9). Poltorak ranks second in both save percentage (.855) and goals against average (0.87).

UMass Lowell is coming off a 2-1 home win over NJIT in the team's America East opener on Sunday. That gives the River Hawks three wins in their last four outings. The only common opponent BU and UML share is Bryant with both teams earning wins. Binghamton posted a 3-1 road win two weeks before UML earned a 1-0 road win over the same Bulldogs team. Lowell is led by freshman forward Ioanna Papatheodorou, who has six goals, including three game-winners. Freshman keeper Lisa Sjogren has a 1.23 goals against average. Reigning America East Defender of the Year Dunja Mostarac still anchors the back line. The River Hawks were picked to finish second in the America East Coaches' Preseason Poll, behind reigning champion Stony Brook (Binghamton was picked third).

Binghamton leads the all-time series 7-2-1 and has won the last two meetings, each by a 1-0 score. Last April 15, BU used a goal from Dora Hayes in the 54th minute to eliminate top-seed and host Lowell 1-0 in the America East semifinals.
