VESTAL, N.Y. – Sophomore
Elijah Lanfear won three events and Binghamton posted five other double-event winners, highlighting its swimming & diving dual meet against Bryant on Saturday afternoon at the Saunders Aquatic Center. The Bearcats won the men's meet 185.5-114.5 but fell short in the women's competition by a 184-116 margin.
"We are happy with how both teams competed today coming off a meet Friday night," head coach
Jerry Cummiskey said. "They have been consistently training hard now for a long stretch and we knew these couple weeks they would feel that. That just part of where we are in our training as we prepare for our invite in a few weeks. Saw some great racing and competition on the boards and liked the way they were working to make adjustments and try some new things while racing."
Lanfear, who has now won five events in the last two meets, swept the 50 free (20.71), 100 free (46.56) and the 100 fly (49.53) against Bryant. He was also part of the first-place 400 free relay which included freshman
Liam Preston, as well as juniors
George Kipshidze and
Liam Murphy and clocked a time of 3:08.90.
Also winning a pair of events on the men's side were senior
Ryan Cohn and juniors
Xiaoyu Lin and
Henry Shemet. Cohn swept the one- and three-meter diving events with scores of 280.13 and 265,20 respectively. He has now won seven of the eight events he has competed in so far this season. Shemet won the 200 free (1:44.51) and 200 IM (1:56.91) while Lin captured the 100 breast (58.34) and the 200 breast (2:10.43).
Preston was the other Binghamton men's individual winner, taking the 500 free in a time of 4:41.27.
The Bearcats also won the 200 medley relay. The quartet of Lin, junior
Jake Vecchio and seniors
Justin Meyn and
Ryan Maierle recorded a time of 1:33.44.
On the women's side, junior
Courtney Moane swept the 100 breast and 200 breast for the second time in as many meets. Against Bryant, her winning times were 1:06.74 and 2:25.70 respectively.
Freshman
Elizabeth Tirado, meanwhile, swept the women's diving events for the second consecutive meet. Her scores against the Bulldogs were 216.15 for the one-meter board and 232.13 for the three-meter board.
Binghamton hosts Cornell on Friday at 5 p.m. in its final home meet of the fall semester.
"We are very encouraged with the work our teams have piled up and think that as a group there are great things to come," Cummiskey said. "We just have to stay healthy and focused over the next couple weeks. The energy and support they have for each other is great to see and definitely a strength of our program."
