STORY LINES
- Binghamton (5-8-4, 3-2-2 AE) is in the America East Tournament for the first time since 2019. The Bearcats finished the current regular season on a 5-2-2 tear and recorded their highest conference winning percentage (.571) since 2010.
- UMBC (10-5-2, 4-3-0 AE) is making its second straight appearance in the America East Tournament, having advanced to the semifinal round last year. The Retrievers ended the 2022 regular season on a 4-1-1 run.
- Binghamton defeated UMBC 4-2 this past Tuesday night at the Bearcats Sports Complex. Junior forward
Shawn Coles scored twice and added an assist in the victory. The other Binghamton goals were scored by junior midfielder
Markos Touroukis and graduate student forward
Ethan Homler.
- Coles leads the Bearcats with 10 total points this season (3 goals, 4 assists), while Homler and Touroukis are tied for first with four goals. Homler has scored all of his goals within the last five matches. In goal, senior keeper
Mats Roorda has posted a 1.23 GAA as well as a .738 save percentage.
- Ryan Becher of UMBC leads the America East in goals (13), assists (10) and total points (36). On the national level, he ranks first with 2.12 points per game, is sixth in goals per game (0.76) and No. 11 in assists per game (0.59).
- This marks the fourth meeting between Binghamton and UMBC in the America East Tournament and the first since 2009. The Bearcats lead the post-season series 2-1-0, having won 4-1 in the 2005 semifinals and 1-0 in the 2007 semifinals. Most recently, however, the Retrievers took a 2-1 decision in the 2009 quarterfinals. Of the previous three matches, only the 2005 contest took place at UMBC.
- Binghamton is 9-9-7 all time in 14 previous trips to the America East Tournament, having won the title in 2003 and 2006. The Bearcats have also earned runner up honors in 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2015. Of the seven ties – Binghamton won the decisive penalty kick shootout five times. The Bearcats most recent trip to the America East semifinals took place in 2015.
