Easton, PA– Binghamton men's lacrosse picked up their first win of the season at Lafayette by a final score of 13-12 in an overtime thriller.
The Leopards struck first, scoring in the first 14 seconds of the game to take the early lead. Ryan McBeth responded shortly after scoring his first goal of the season to get the Bearcats on the board. Later in the first period, Thomas Greenblatt, Quinn O'Hara, and Ethan Insinga all found the back of the net putting BU in front 4-2 heading into the second period.
In goal, Teddy Dolan notched five saves on 10 shot attempts in the first period keeping the Leopards attack at bay.
"Teddy Dolan was outstanding in the goal and offensively we did a good job of finishing the opportunities that we created" said head coach Kevin McKeown.
Going into the second period, both teams traded goals going back and forth. With the Bearcats leading 7-5 just before the half, sophomore Zak Conley scored his first career goal to put the Bearcats up 8-5.
Lafayette came out strong in the third period, striking first to cut the lead to just two. Binghamton scored their lone goal in the third period ona man up situation where Justin Roderka found the back of the net. The Leopards used a three goal run towards the end of the third period to tie the game at nine.
In the fourth, Lafayette struck first again at the 11 minute mark taking their first lead of the game going up 10-9. After falling behind, BU scored two in a row from Roderka and Daniel MacKinney putting the Bearcats back on top. Lafayette scored twice with less than five minutes in regulation with Winkoff scoring in between both of the Leopards goals at the two minute mark in the fourth.
"I am proud of our team for continuing to stay the course. We lost the lead there in the second half, but we kept battling and that carried into the last play in overtime" McKeown said.
On the final play in overtime, BU was able to scoop up the loose ball and find MacKinney who passed it to Winkoff in the middle of the field for the game winner and his fourth goal of the game.
The Bearcats will be back in action on Saturday, March 5 when they travel to take on Bucknell at 1 p.m.
