Volleyball Downs UAlbany 3-1

Ilieva, Adam post double-digit kills in victory

VESTAL, N.Y. (BUBearcats.com) - The Binghamton University volleyball team (12-9, 5-1) took down UAlbany 3-1 (18-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-19) inside West Gym Friday night.

The Bearcats dominated their opponents at the net, registering a season-high 18 team blocks to the Great Danes' five. BU hit at .259 percent while holding UAlbany to just .193 percent.

Tsvetelina Ilieva recorded a team-high 18 kills in the victory, her eighteenth double-digit kill performance of the season in 21 games. Lydia Adam followed her teammate with a career-high 12 kills at an impressive .500 clip.

Anna Sprys had an incredible night for the Bearcats, posting a season-high 10 blocks to lead BU in the category and remain atop the America East standings. The middle blocker also added nine kills to the BU stat sheet.

Misa Dlouha notched seven blocks and five kills in the four set win while Adam earned six of her own to cap off a great performance for the graduate student.

Lottie Scully registered 45 assists at setter while Madison Konopka governed the back row for Binghamton at libero with 19 digs.

After dropping the first set by seven, Binghamton's second frame was the most competitive of the match with 11 tie scores and seven lead changes.

Both teams traded points and the lead before the Bearcats went on a 6-0 runs towards the end of the second frame to go up 23-18. UAlbany tacked on four more, saving two set points, until kills from Sprys and Adam took the set for BU 25-22.

The match's third set went similarly to the second with both squads going back and forth until Binghamton pulled ahead with six straight points to lead 20-17. Three Great Dane errors and two Bearcat kills ended the frame 25-22, once again in favor of the Bearcats.

BU finished the job in the fourth, grabbing its biggest set win of the night 25-19. Binghamton earned an early lead at 10-6, culminating with a kill by Adam. The Bearcats maintained the advantage for the rest of the stanza, slowly chipping away at their opponents before a kill from Sprys earned a set and match victory for the home team.

Next up, Binghamton will host NJIT Sunday, Oct. 29, for an America East match up inside West Gym. Match time is slated for 1 p.m.
