Volleyball Dominates NJIT 3-0

Ilieva records 1,000th career kill in victory

VESTAL, N.Y. (BUBearcats.com) - The Binghamton University volleyball team (12-9, 6-1) took home its second straight America East win in commanding fashion 3-0 over NJIT inside West Gym Sunday afternoon. 

BU dominated the stat sheet, hitting an impressive .474 as a team while holding their opponents to a .052 clip. The Bearcats recorded more than twice as many kills as the Highlanders with 47 and owned a 11-2 block advantage. Binghamton registered all three of the match's service aces and led team assists 45-22 and digs 28-15.  

With a team-high 14 kills, nine digs, and a solid .423 hitting percentage, Tsvetelina Ilieva posted her 1,000 career kill in the third set. The outside hitters' attack performance was her nineteenth match with double-digit kills this fall. 

Misa Dlouha had her fourth double-digit kill match with 10 kills at .643 percent while adding a team-best seven blocks. Lydia Adam added nine kills at .667 after her career night against UAlbany Friday. 

Lottie Scully notched 40 assists as setter, earned a career-high seven blocks and went a perfect four-for-four in successful attack attempts. 

Both teams traded points to begin the match until the Bearcats pulled ahead with a 4-0 run at 12-7. BU solidified its lead with three consecutive points to go up 19-12 before putting up six straight to close out the set 25-14. 

Binghamton and NJIT went back and forth till for the majority of the second set until BU posted a 8-0 run, its largest of the match, to increase its advantage to nine at 23-14. The Highlanders tacked on one more before two errors gave the home team the set victory 25-15. 

Two 3-0 runs gave the Bearcats the early lead in the final set 8-3. The teams traded points once again until five straight points furthered BU's advantage by 10 at 22-12. Binghamton finished out the match with three consecutive to win the third set 25-13

Next up, the Bearcats will travel to Smithfield, R.I. to take on Bryant, Friday, Nov. 3. Match time is slated for 7 p.m.
