Volleyball Falters Against Bryant 3-2

Dlouha registers career-best 13 blocks in five set loss

SMITHFIELD, R.I. (BUBearcats.com) - The Binghamton University volleyball team (13-10, 6-2) dropped its second America East match to Bryant, 3-2 (26-24, 22-25, 15-25, 25-23, 9-15) inside Chace Athletic Center Friday night.

Binghamton continued its season long dominance at net despite the loss, owning a 15-12 block advantage. Misa Dlouha led all Bearcats with a career-high 13 successful rejections.

Ella Schabort and Tsvetelina Ilieva registered 12 kills apiece, Schabort's coming at a .370 clip. Dlouha and Lydia Adam grabbed eight kills each with over .300 hitting percentages while Anna Sprys added seven kills for BU at .400.

Lottie Scully recorded 36 assists at setter while Madison Konopka tallied a team-best 14 digs at libero.

Both teams traded runs of 3-0 or better to start the first set, giving Bryant a 9-3 advantage. The Bulldogs continued to add to their lead, before the Bearcats put together six straight to come out on top 22-21. Bryant tacked on three more until a kill from Schabort and blocks by Scully and Dlouha gave BU the set 26-24.

Binghamton dropped the second and third sets to the Bulldogs by a combined 13 points.

With their backs against the wall, the Bearcats produced a two point fourth set victory. After Bryant jumped out to an early 6-0 lead, BU traded points with the home team until going on an impressive 6-0 run to close out the set 25-23 and even the match at 2-2.

Binghamton started hot in the final set at 5-1 but were unable to maintain its momentum, falling 15-9 in the fifth frame and dropping the match 3-2.

Next up, the Bearcats will host UMBC in an important America East match Sunday, Nov. 5 at 1 p.m inside the Events Center. BU will honor graduating players Lydia Adam, Stephanie Gatto, Anna Sprys and Stefana Stan after the conclusion of the contest.
