BU drops 3-1 match-up to Retrievers inside Events Center

VESTAL, N.Y. (BUBearcats.com) - The Binghamton University volleyball team (13-11, 6-3) dropped a 3-1 (25-17, 22-25, 27-29, 16-25) match to UMBC inside the Events Center Sunday afternoon.

BU honored its graduating class of Lydia Adam, Anna Sprys, Stephanie Gatto and Stefana Stan after the conclusion of the team's last regular-season home contest.

The Bearcats owned a 19-15 advantage in blocks despite the loss, a season-high team total for Binghamton.

Lottie Scully posted her sixth double-double of the season with team-best 30 assists and 13 digs. Tsvetelina Ilieva and Ella Schabort tallied 16 kills apiece against UMBC with Schabort's successful attacks coming in at an impressive .314 percent.

Sprys led Binghamton with 11 blocks from the front row while Adam and teammate Misa Dlouha added seven each. Madison Konopka pitched in 11 digs as the Bearcat libero.

BU started the match off on the right foot, winning the first set by a commanding eight points and hitting a contest-best .250 percent. Both teams traded points to begin the frame before two 4-0 runs gave the Bearcats the lead at 14-9 and again at 19-11. Binghamton and UMBC added six more points apiece, giving BU the 25-17 set victory.

The Bearcats were unable to maintain the winning momentum in the following sets, dropping the next three stanzas to the Retrievers by a combined 14 points.

Next up, Binghamton will travel to Riverdale, N.Y. for its final non conference contest of the season against Manhattan College, Wednesday, Nov. 8. Match time is slated for 6 p.m.
