Three Bearcats post double-digit kills in victory

VESTAL, N.Y. (BUBearcats.com) - The Binghamton University volleyball team (8-8, 2-0) took down America East opponent University of New Hampshire 3-1 (25-19, 18-25, 25-22, 32-30) in an epic match inside the Events Center.

The Bearcats led the visitors in five statistical categories with a .276 hitting percentage as well as owning the 63-54 advantage in kills and blocks 8-4.

Tsvetelina Ilieva, Ella Schabort and Misa Dlouha all registered double-digit kills for BU with Ilieva posting a team-high 23 kills at .276, her fourth performance of 20 or more kills this season.

Schabort followed with 12 kills while Dlouha tacked on 10 at .333. Anna Sprys and Lydia Adam added eight and seven kills, respectively, for Binghamton in the victory.

Lottie Scully recorded her fourth double-double of the fall with a season-high 46 assists and 19 digs for the setter.

Madison Konopka notched 13 digs at libero while Sprys grabbed a team-best six blocks for the Bearcats.

Both squads traded points to start the first frame until two kills by Schabort and a service ace from Konopka put Binghamton ahead 14-12. BU then went on a 6-0 run to lead 20-13. The Wildcats added six more points to the home team's five as the Bearcats closed out the frame 25-19.

The second set was Binghamton's only stanza loss of the night as BU dropped the frame by seven points 25-18. The set featured eight tie scores and four lead changes. Adam, Schabort and Sprys each posted two kills in the stanza while Konopka tallied four digs.

Three consecutive kills by Ilieva gave the Bearcats an early 9-1 lead in the third set, surrendering just one point on a service error. UNH went on a 5-0 run to cut BU's advantage to five at 13-8 before Binghamton put up five straight to lead by 10 at 19-9.

The Wildcats registered two more runs of four or more points to narrow the stanza to 22-21 before the Bearcats claimed the third set victory 25-22 on an Ilieva service ace.

With a 32-30 final and 13 tie scores, the fourth set was the most competitive BU has seen this season. Both teams stayed within a point of each other until Binghamton posted five straight to lead 14-8. The Wildcats didn't back down, scoring multiple points and earning a 4-0 run that tied the frame at 24.

The Bearcats saved two set points in the final sequences of the stanza, scoring three straight points on a kill from Ilieva and two UNH errors to take the set 32-20 and the match 3-1, winning their second conference match of the season.
