Volleyball Takes Down Bryant 3-0

Bearcats remain unbeaten in America East competition

VESTAL, N.Y. (BUBearcats.com) - The Binghamton University volleyball team (9-8, 3-0) extended its win streak to three Sunday afternoon, defeating Bryant University (12-9, 1-2) 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-11) inside the Events Center.

BU dominated its opponent at the net, recording 13.5 team blocks to the Bulldogs three. The Bearcats put up twice as many aces against Bryant, who ranks within the top 10 nationally from the service line.

Binghamton held the visiting team to just a .162 hitting percentage while owning a .333 clip themselves.

Tsvetelina Ilieva and Ella Schabort earned double-digit kill figures for the Bearcats, registering 13 and 10 apiece, respectively. Schabort's ten successful attack attempts came at an impressive .500 hitting percentage while Misa Dlouha added five kills at her own .500 clip.

Anna Sprys notched a season-high nine blocks at the net for BU while Lydia Adam tallied a Binghamton career-best five against the Bulldog offense. Lottie Scully and Dlouha earned four blocks each, a season-high total for Scully.

Scully posted 29 assists at setter for the Bearcats while libero Madison Konopka led the back row with a team-high 16 digs.

Binghamton jumped out to an early 6-2 lead with four consecutive points over Bryant, fueled by kills from Ilieva and Sprys. The Bulldogs fought back with a 3-0 run to regain the advantage at 13-12 before BU scored four straight to lead 16-13.

Both teams traded points and runs until the final sequences of the frame where Bryant saved two set points to cut BU's advantage to one at 24-23 before a kill from Ilieva closed out the first set 25-23.

The second set went similar to the Bearcats' first, with both competitors exchanging the advantage for the majority of the stanza. Binghamton earned its first major lead at 22-18 after two kills from Ilieva and one from Schabort gave BU three straight points. The home team closed out the set a few sequences later at 25-20.

Binghamton's most dominant set came in a third set that only featured one lead change, compared to eight from the previous two frames. BU went on four separate runs of 3-0 or better, including eight consecutive points to lead by 11 at 21-10.

The Bearcats recorded four straight points on Bulldog errors, along with a kill and a service ace by Ilieva to win the final frame in commanding fashion 25-11 and win their third straight match.

Next up, Binghamton travels to Brooklyn to take on Long Island for a midweek non-conference match-up Tuesday, Oct. 10. The match will begin at 6 p.m.
