Volleyball Advances to AE Final with 3-2 Win Over UNH

Binghamton completes the reverse sweep to advance to first conference final since 2017

BALTIMORE, Md. (BUBearcats.com) - The Binghamton University volleyball team (15-12, 7-4) advanced to its first America East Championship Final since 2017 with a 3-2 (23-25, 22-25, 25-17, 25-23, 15-9) win over New Hampshire Friday night inside Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena.

BU completed its first reverse sweep of the season, coming back to win the last three sets after dropping the first two.

The Bearcats commanded the match stat sheet, posting both 59-52 advantage in kills and a 17-11 block advantage at the net. Binghamton held UNH to a .123 hitting percentage across five sets while owning a .208 clip themselves.

Tsvetelina Ilieva recorded her tenth double-double of the season with 15 kills and 16 digs. Misa Dlouha registered her own double-double, the first of her career, with 12 kills and 10 blocks for a team-best 20.5 points. Lottie Scully rounded out the Bearcats double-doubles with a season-high 49 assists and 12 digs, her seventh this fall.

Anna Sprys chipped in a season-best 14 kills at an impressive .355 hitting percentage with six blocks. Ella Schabort and Lydia Adam added eight kills apiece and combined for nine blocks.

Madison Konopka and Brenda Reynaga governed the back row for Binghamton, tallying 19 and 16 digs, respectively. Konopka also posted a team-high four aces in the victory.

Despite dropping the first two sets, BU averaged a .225 hitting percentage to UNH's .150 in the initial two frames.

With its back against the wall, Binghamton delivered a third set win to keep itself in the match. Both teams traded points to start the frame until the Bearcats put up a 5-0 run to lead it 12-8. BU kept its lead for the remainder of the match, sealing the stanza victory with five consecutive points to win it 25-17.

New Hampshire struck first in the fourth set, grabbing an early 5-2 lead that Binghamton wouldn't overcome until a 5-0 run tied it up at 18. The teams went back and forth once again before three straight Bearcat points gave BU the frame victory 25-23 and evened up the match at two sets apiece.

Binghamton started hot in the deciding set with a 3-1 lead off of a block and two kills from Ilieva. BU furthered its lead once again with two, 4-0 runs to own an insurmountable 13-6 advantage. The Wildcats were able to tack on two more points yet two UNH errors ended the set 15-9 and the match 3-2 in favor of the Bearcats.

Up next, Binghamton takes on defending champions UMBC in the America East Championship Final tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 18. Match time is slated for 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
