VESTAL, N.Y. – Simply put, 2023 has been a banner year for 2022 Binghamton alum Emily Mackay.
In her first full season as a professional – running for New Balance Boston – she has advanced to the finals of the USA Track & Field Championships in the 1,500 this summer. During the indoor season last February, she clocked a 4:26.29 mile time – becoming just the 100
th American female to break the 4:30 mark. In March, she earned a bronze medal in the 3,000 at the USA National Indoor Championships.
This past weekend, however, Mackay earned bronze medal in the 1,500 at the prestigious Pan America Games in Chile. It marked her first time competing in that event for the United States.
Mackay's time in the finals was 4:12.02. Joselyn Daniely Brea of Venezuela was the gold medalist with a time of 4:11.80 while Daily Marlins Cooper of Cuba was second in 4:11.86.

The Pan American Games is a continental multi-sport event in the Americas featuring summer sports, in which thousands of athletes participate in a variety of competitions. The competition is held among athletes from nations of the Americas, every four years in the year before the Summer Olympic Games.
