Day gets 7th while Cassella places 8th, team finishes 19th

LAS VEGAS – Brevin Cassella and Cory Day finished competing at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Wrestling Invitational Saturday at Westgate Paradise Events Center.

Day ultimately finished 7th at 285 lbs., while Cassella placed 8th at 165 lbs. Their performances helped the Bearcats finish 19th out of 35 teams at the tournament with 30 points. That is seven spots higher than where FloWrestling had the Bearcats projected to finish, which was 26th. Binghamton finished ahead of three teams who are ranked in the Top 25 of FloWrestling's Team Tournament Rankings. Those teams are Cal Poly (18), Air Force (19), and Purdue (22).

"I was glad to see Brevin and Cory get on the podium out here," said Binghamton Head Coach Kyle Borshoff. "It's the toughest event of the season outside of the NCAA championships. We finished ahead of three nationally ranked teams out here, which is a true testament to the depth of this event. I'm looking forward to building off the positives from our performance and cleaning up some of our problem areas over the duration of the season."

Day began with a match against No. 17 Nick Feldman of Ohio State, with a trip to the Consolation Semifinals on the line. Feldman would defeat Day in a 14-3 major decision. Day would go on to be declared the winner of the 7th place match after a medical forfeit by No. 16 Lewis Fernandes of Cornell.

Cassella fought a tough opening contest against No. 29 Hunter Garvin of Stanford but fell in a 2-1 decision. The junior was then defeated by No. 8 Matthew Olguin of Oregon State to finish in 8th place.
