VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton men's lacrosse team has announced its schedule for the 2024 season. The Bearcats will play 13 games, including five at home at the Bearcats Sports Complex.
Binghamton will open its season on Saturday, Feb. 10 at noon at USA Lacrosse's Tierney Field in Sparks Glencoe, Md. There, the Bearcats will take on Jacksonville University, who won 12 games the prior season.
After that, Binghamton will play its first home game of the season on Saturday, Feb. 17 at noon against in-state rival St. Bonaventure. In 2023, the Bearcats took on the Bonnies for the first time at the Division I level. Binghamton came out on top with a 12-11 victory in overtime.
The Bearcats will then play four straight road games over the course of three weeks. First up is Lafayette on Saturday, Feb. 24. Following that is Richmond on Saturday, March 2. Richmond made the NCAA Tournament in 2023 after winning the Atlantic 10 championship. It was the second straight season that the Spiders made the NCAA tournament. Then comes the first week of the season where BU will have two games to play, as there will be games against Mount St. Mary's on Tuesday, March 5, and St. John's on Saturday, March 9. Mount St. Mary's won eight games in 2023.
Binghamton returns home on Saturday, March 16 to host Merrimack. It is the first America East opponent for the Bearcats. The Bearcats defeated the Warriors on the road in 2023 14-7. Awaiting Binghamton will then be New Jersey Institute of Technology on Saturday, March 23. A home game against UMass Lowell on Saturday, March 30 at noon follows that. Binghamton defeated both teams in 2023.
The final stretch of the regular season begins with a trip north to go up against Vermont on Saturday, April 6. The Catamounts are the reigning America East regular season champions and made the NCAA tournament in 2021 and 2022.
Then comes the final two home games for the Bearcats during the regular season. UMBC will be the first team to take on the Bearcats on Saturday, April 13 at 2 p.m. The Retrievers just missed out on qualifying for the America East tournament after finishing with an 8-5 overall record and a 3-4 mark in conference play. Defending America East tournament champion Bryant will close out the home portion of Binghamton's schedule on Saturday, April 20 at noon. The Bulldogs won 12 games, making it the first season where they won at least 10 games since 2017.
The regular season ends on Saturday, April 27 at Albany. The Great Danes upset Vermont in the semifinals of the America East tournament before taking Bryant to double overtime in the championship game.
The 2024 America East Men's Lacrosse Tournament will begin on Thursday, May 2 with the semifinals. The finals will then take place on Saturday, May 4. All the games will take place at the school that is the No. 1 seed.
Binghamton is coming off a 9-5 overall record in 2023, which included a 5-2 mark in America East play. The Bearcats ultimately qualified for the America East tournament that year as the No. 3 seed.
