Box Score VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton women's lacrosse scored six unanswered goals in the second half en route to an 11-5 victory over Pittsburgh on Thursday afternoon at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The Panthers were the first ACC school to play a women's lacrosse game at the Bearcats Sports Complex. Five of the unanswered goals occurred in the fourth quarter from four different players.
"I'm really proud of our second half performance by our team," head coach Stephanie Allen said. "We executed better offensively in the second half. Defensively, we were consistent the entire game. Emily Manning was a force between the pipes. We cleaned up our mistakes against Drexel and it showed today."
Madison Murphy led the way for Bearcats, scoring a game-high three goals. Abugail Carroll, Kristen Scheidel, and Isabella Meli each scored two goals for Binghamton. Kenna Newman and Olivia Muscolino also scored goals in the contest. Newman had a game-high four assists, while Carroll added two assists.
Defensively, Paige Alletzhauser picked up five ground balls and caused three turnovers.
Kristen Scheidel put the Bearcats on the board first less than two minutes into the game. Tied 2-2 at the end of the first quarter, Scheidel scored her second goal of the game to put Binghamton back in front, 3-2. After a Pittsburgh goal tied the game at 3-3, Binghamton got a key goal from Carroll with three seconds left in the second quarter on a man advantage to take a 4-3 lead into the half.
Early in the second half, Pittsburgh rallied to tie the score at 5-5. Carroll scored midway through the fourth quarter to put Binghamton back in front, 6-5. In the beginning of the fourth quarter, Murphy scored two momentum changing goals that put Binghamton in front 8-5. Muscolino, Meli, and Newman would all score insurance goals in the fourth quarter to cap off a signature win for the Bearcats program
Binghamton will face nationally ranked Syracuse on Monday, February 20.
