Men’s Lacrosse downs St. Bonaventure 12-11 in OT

Matthew Keegan led all BU scorers with four goals

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y.- Binghamton men's lacrosse (2-0) defeated St. Bonaventure (0-2) in an overtime thriller. After jumping out to a fast start leading 7-2 after the first quarter, St. Bonaventure used a three goal run in the span of 56 seconds in the third period to cut the BU lead to 9-8. The Bonnies then tied the game with 13:59 left in the fourth period at nine and later with two minutes left in the game scoring back to back goals to tie the game at 11.

Late in the first quarter St. Bonaventure made a change in the net after BU scored 6 goals. "I thought the second goalie came in and played well for them," head coach Kevin McKeown said. "He was able to come up with some big saves and turn the tide for them."

With 3:05 left in overtime, BU called a timeout and a penalty was called on St. Bonaventure, giving the Bearcats a man-up opportunity. After a wide shot by senior Nicholas Imburgia, BU retained possession with redshirt junior Thomas Greenblatt finding sophomore Matthew Keegan for the game winning goal.

With the four goals, Keegan has now had back to back games with four or more goals to start the season. Keegan got off to a blazing start with a hat trick in the first quarter of the game.

"Matt has been playing great," McKeown said. "He has a great feel for the game and is shooting the ball very efficiently."

Greenblatt also finished with a hat trick as well in the contest. Five other Bearcats found the back of the net.

Redshirt freshman Connor Winters recorded a career-high 17 saves in the win including some late saves before heading into overtime.

BU will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 25 for their home opener against Lafayette.
