Box Score SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Binghamton women's lacrosse fell to No. 2 Syracuse, 17-10, on Monday afternoon in front of nearly 1,400 fans at JMA Wireless Dome. The Bearcats got a hat trick from Isabella Meli and two goals from Emma Conroy in the loss. Kenna Newman recorded a game-high three assists, while Madison Murphy added two assists. Binghamton put up a valiant effort in the fourth quarter, outscoring Syracuse by a wide margin. The Bearcats put up 10 goals against the Orange for the first time in 10 all-time meetings.
"I'm really proud that our team didn't give up and continued to battle the entire game," said head coach Stephanie Allen. "These games can be just as mentally exhausting as they are physically. I thought our team responded well in the fourth quarter."
Trailing 4-0, Marisa Tancredi was left open in front of the net, and Madison Murphy made a crisp pass to find her for her first goal of the season. Shortly after, Isabella Meli scored her third goal of the year with 2:23 left in the opening period to cut the deficit to 4-2. Kenna Newman picked up her fifth assist of the season on the Meli goal. Syracuse led 5-2 at the end of the first period.
Syracuse extended their lead to 10-2 early in the second period, Emma Conroy scored her first goal of the season off a nice pass from Murphy to make the score 10-3 with 7:53 left in the first half. The Orange took an 11-3 lead into halftime and continued their offensive dominance until the fourth period.
In the fourth period, Binghamton entered the period trailing 15-3. However, the Bearcats outscored Syracuse 7-2 in the final period. The Bearcats got an early goal in the period from Abigail Carroll before Syracuse added two goals. In the final eight minutes, Binghamton put up six unanswered goals from five different goal scorers. Meli completed the hat trick with two goals in that span, while Conroy, Newman, Muscolino, and Murphy all found the back of the net in the period.
Angelina Suau had four ground balls, which tied for a game-high. Tiana Vazquez had a game-high two caused turnovers. Kristen Scheidel had a team-high five draw controls, while Carroll had four. Emily Manning made eight saves in the loss.
Binghamton will travel to Siena on Saturday, February 25 for a 2 p.m. showdown against the Saints.
