Box Score POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Binghamton women's lacrosse defeated Marist on Saturday afternoon to get back to .500 on the season. The Bearcats tallied seven unanswered goals from six different players in the first 12 minutes of the game. Binghamton also had a streak of 15 consecutive shots on target, which started at the beginning of the game and lasted until the midway point of the second period. Olivia Muscolino had a game-high four goals, while Abigail Carroll, Kenna Newman, and Kristen Scheidel each scored three goals. Emily Manning made seven saves and had a save percentage of .583.
"Today was a great confidence boost for our team and nice to see our offense get off to such a fast start," said head coach Stephanie Allen. " Across the field I thought we were focused and composed - really following the game plan and playing cohesively."
Binghamton started fast with three goals on their first three possessions within the first three minutes of the game. Kenna Newman found Marisa Tancredi to put the Bearcats on the board just over a minute into the game. Less than 40 seconds later, Kenna Newman scored her ninth goal of the season to put Binghamton ahead 2-0 with 13:07 left in the opening period. Olivia Muscolino found the top of the net with her 12th goal of the season to give the Bearcats a 3-0 lead with 12:27 left. Abigail Carroll scored back to back unassisted goals, just over a minute apart, to stretch the lead to 5-0 with 8:55 left in the first. Hayley Weltner converted a free position attempt to extend the lead to 6-0. Kristen Scheidel scored off of an Isabella Meli assist to make it 7-0 game. After a Marist goal, Scheidel quickly responded with her second goal of the game to put the Bearcats ahead, 8-1.
The Bearcats continued their offensive success early in the second period with two more goals in the first two minutes of the period. Muscolino scored her second goal of the game off of a Newman assist. Scheidel recorded her first career hat trick to increase the lead to 10-1 with 13:30 left in the first half. After two Marist goals made the score 10-3, Binghamton received two more goals in the final 15 seconds of the first half. Newman scored her second goal of the game and Muscolino completed the hat trick with five seconds left in the half.
Tancredi scored her second goal of the game to put the Bearcats up 13-3 with 12:15 left in the third period. The Red Foxes added two goals in the third, but Kenna Newman recorded a hat trick with 3:17 left in the third period. Muscolino scored her fourth goal of the game off a Tancredi assist to extend the lead to 15-5, which gave the Bearcats their second running clock advantage of the period.
Early in the fourth period, Madison Murphy scored back-to-back goals and gave Binghamton a 17-6 lead. Shortly after, Carroll completed her hat trick with 7:38 left in the fourth.
The Bearcats travel to Cornell on Tuesday, March 14 at 5 p.m.
