Bearcats have won seven of last eight, face reigning MAAC champs at 3 p.m. in Buffalo

VESTAL, N.Y. - Coming off a three-game sweep in the team's America East opening series, Binghamton baseball (11-8) travels to Buffalo to face Canisius (6-11) in a battle of reigning conference champions who were both picked to win their leagues again this season. The America East champion Bearcats and MAAC champ Golden Griffins tangle at 3 p.m. at Demske Sports Complex.

Binghamton has won seven of its last eight, highlighted by a three-game sweep of 2022 conference runnerup UMass Lowell over the weekend. The wins pushed BU's record over the .500 mark for the first time this season and kept them unbeaten at home (6-0).

Led by outfielders and top-of-the-order guys Tommy Reifler (.418) and Cavan Tully (.405), BU is hitting .293 as a team - first in the America East. The team also ranks second in pitching ERA (5.77) and first in fielding (.974). Reifler and Tully rank 1-2 in the conference in hitting and sophomore second baseman Nick Roselli is fifth in RBI with 19.

Freshman Dan McAliney is scheduled to make his second career start.

Canisius is coming off its own three-game conference sweep after clubbing Mount St. Mary's over the weekend. The Griffs were picked to repeat as MAAC champions after going 15-9 against league foes last year en route to an NCAA bid. Junior second baseman Max Grant is the MAAC Preseason Player of the Year and a Preseason All-American after collecting 90 hits and hitting .398 last spring. The team is hitting .242 and has a 6.81 pitching ERA.

The Griffs will throw senior left-hander Chris Pouliot.

The teams have split eight head-to-head games, first playing back in 1998 and meeting most recently in 2015. That game, in Buffalo, resulted in a wild 18-15 BU win in 11 innings after the teams combined for 33 runs on 27 hits. Last year's scheduled game in Vestal was canceled due to inclement weather.
