Men’s Lacrosse secures 16-13 win at UMBC

Bearcats clinch berth in America East Tournament

BALTIMORE, MD.- Binghamton men's lacrosse (8-3, 4-1 AE) picked up the 16-11 win at UMBC (7-4, 2-3 AE) on Saturday in a crucial America East matchup. With the win the Bearcats secured a spot in the America East tournament. 15 seconds into the game senior Matthew DeSouza would find the back of the net to get the scoring started. Binghamton used a four goal run in the first quarter and into the second quarter to take a 5-2 lead. UMBC would get the lead to only one throughout the game but the Bearcats stayed in control throughout. 

Redshirt freshman Connor Winters was strong in the cage, recording 18 saves and posting a .581 save percentage. Winters made a big save at the doorstep with 3:14 left in the third period to secure save number 14 of the contest.

Offensively, three Bearcats recorded hat tricks. Sophomore Gage Adams led the team with four goals, sophomore Matthew Keegan and junior Ethan Insinga recorded three goals. Insinga added three assists for a game-high six points, Keegan added two assists. Keegan now has 40 goals on the season and sits second in program history for goals in a single season.

Redshirt junior Thomas Greenblatt and senior Nicholas Imburgia both recorded three points. Greenblatt scored one goal and added two assists, Imburgia scored two goals and added one assist. With the two assists, Greenblatt now has 29 on the season and sits just two shy from the program record for assists in a season. 

Junior Ross Chazanow, seniors Quinn O'Hara and DeSouza each scored a goal. At the x, Chazonow won 9-18 faceoffs and secured nine groundballs. DeSouza won six faceoffs and secured five groundballs. 

The Bearcats will be back in action on Saturday, April 22 at Bryant for a matchup of 4-1 teams in America East play.
