Softball Hosts Albany in AE Series

Bearcats and Great Danes square off in noon DH Saturday, noon game Sunday

STORY LINES

Binghamton (15-11, 2-3 AE) split a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday at Siena. The Bearcats won the opener 4-3 but dropped the nightcap, 4-2 in five innings. Junior pitcher Allison L'Amoreaux struck out a career-high nine batters to get the win in the opener. She also finished the day 3-for-6 at the plate (.500) with a home run.

Redshirt sophomore utility player Lindsey Walter ranks first on the team and sixth in the nation with a .484 batting average. She is also No. 23 in the nation with a .529 on-base percentage. Sophomore outfielder Laney Harbaugh is No. 23 in the nation with 0.64 stolen bases per game. On the mound, graduate student pitcher Sophia Pappas is No. 31 in the nation with 9.4 strikeouts per game.

Redshirt sophomore utility player Brianna Santos is second on the team and seventh in the America East with a .358 batting average. She is also sixth in slugging percentage (.537) and third with 23 RBI. Graduate student second baseman Alli Richmond is tied for sixth in the conference with three home runs and is tied for eighth with 16 RBI.

Freshman pitcher Brianna Roberts is 5-2 with a 2.84 ERA. She is also tied for third in the America East with 60 strikeouts. As a team, the Bearcats have recorded a conference-best six saves.

UAlbany (11-10, 3-1 AE) split a doubleheader at Army on Wednesday, winning the opener 11-10 before losing the nightcap 7-4.

Sara Anderson leads UAlbany and ranks No. 27 in the nation with a .436 batting average. As a team, the Great Danes rank seventh in the nation with 0.52 double plays per game and No. 21 with 2.10 stolen bases per game.

Anderson ranks second in the America East in batting, followed by Morgan Petty in third place (.386) and Sierra Fretz in fourth place (.382). On the mound, Kate Powers is the current America East Pitcher of the Week.

Binghamton and UAlbany are the top two hitting teams in the America East. The Great Danes are first (.308) followed by the Bearcats (.275). Binghamton also ranks second in the conference in pitching (3.11 ERA) while UAlbany is fourth (3.99 ERA).

Since the two programs joined the America East Conference in 2002, UAlbany leads the all-time series 51-14. Last year, the Great Danes swept a doubleheader at home on April 13, winning by scores of 5-2 and 12-2. In the most recent games at the Bearcats Sports Complex (April 3-4, 2021) the two teams split a four-game series.
