Casey Gribben have each been named to the 2023 America East Indoor Track & Field All-Academic Team. The announcement was made by the conference office on Thursday afternoon.
The three Binghamton men's selections tied UMass Lowell for the most among conference schools. In addition, the two Bearcat women's picks tied UAlbany, Maine and Bryant for the most in the America East.
To be eligible for America East All-Academic accolades, student-athletes must have sophomore athletic eligibility, attain a 3.30 minimum grade-point average and be a contributor on their team. The squad is voted on by a committee made up of America East student-athlete support and athletic communications administrators as well as faculty athletic representatives. There were 12 women's honorees and 11 men's picks.
Chigatayeva was named to the conference outdoor all-academic team for the third straight year. At last month's America East Championships, she won her fourth straight 3,000 Steeplechase (SC) title and was second in the 1,500. Chigatayeva will competed at the NCAA East Region Meet in the 3,000 SC on Saturday at 5:40 pm.
For her career – Chigatayeva has eight career America East All-Academic honors. She has also been chosen in each of the past three cross country seasons and last two indoor track campaigns.
After graduating with her bachelor's degree last spring, Chigatayeva was named an America East Presidential Scholar-Athlete for attaining at least a 3.7 GPA. In 2020, she was inducted into the National College Athlete Honor Society. This past fall, Chigatayeva was also named a SUNY Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete.
Cassens makes her first appearance on the America East Outdoor All-Academic Team. She was second in the 800 at the America East Conference meet earlier this month and was part of the runner-up 4x400 relay team.
Like Chigatayeva, Cassens was also named an America East Presidential Scholar-Athlete after earning her bachelor's degree last spring. In addition, she too was inducted into the National College Athlete Honor Society in 2020. In addition, Cassens has been on the past two America East Indoor All-Academic Teams.
Cavaliere also makes his first appearance on the conference's outdoor All-Academic Team. He won the 1,500 at both the America East Outdoor Championships and the ensuring IC4A Championships.
Cavaliere now has been named all three of America East All-Academic Teams during the 2022-23 academic year, having also been chosen during the preceding cross country season and indoor track seasons,. In 2021, he was inducted into the National College Athlete Honor Society.
Cavaliere was also named the 2023 America East Men's Indoor Track & Field Scholar-Athlete as well as a 2023 SUNY Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete.
Dolan, who was third in the 3,000 SC at the conference outdoor meet, makes his first career appearance on the America East Outdoor All-Academic Team. Earlier in the year, he was named to the America East Cross Country All-Academic Team.
In 2021, Dolan was inducted into the National College Athlete Honor Society,
Gribben, meanwhile, makes his first appearance on an America East All-Academic Team. He was the men's pole vault champion at the America East Outdoor Meet.
Since the America East All-Academic program was established in 2006, Binghamton has posted 30 men's indoor track & field selections and 21 women's picks.
