Santos and Roberts also appear among final softball national stat leaders

VESTAL, N.Y. – Redshirt sophomore Lindsey Walter – who had a breakthrough season in 2023 – is ranked No. 23 in the final 2023 NCAA Division I softball statistics with a .414 batting average. In addition, freshman pitcher Brianna Roberts is ranked No. 24 in strikeouts-to-walk ratio (5.30) and redshirt sophomore third baseman Brianna Santos is No. 29 with five sacrifice flies.

Walter, who was also the first Binghamton player since 2011 to win the America East batting title, wasn't even a full-time starter until this year. She subsequently made the most of her opportunity as she was named both first-team all-conference and first-team All-Mid Atlantic Region by the National Fastpitch Coaches' Association (NFCA). Walter was also chosen as a first-team ECAC All-Star.

Walter, whose batting average is the 10th-highest in the 45-year history of the Binghamton program, is the third Bearcat to be nationally ranked in hitting during the past 13 years. Jessica Phillips was No. 16 in 2011 (.435) and Jessica Rutherford was No. 18 in 2016 (.441) as well as No. 19 in 2018 (.432).

Roberts, who was named the America East Rookie of the Year, won a team-high 11 games this season. She was also named second-team all-conference and was a member of the America East All-Rookie Team.

Roberts' 11 victories tied the highest total recorded by a Binghamton rookie since Sarah Miller also won 11 games during the 2015 campaign.

Santos, meanwhile, made the most of her first season after transferring from McNeese State last fall. She was named first-team all-conference and was the first Binghamton player to win the America East's RBI title (with 39) since 2017.

Santos' RBI total tied for the eighth-highest mark in Binghamton program history.

Binghamton as a team also appeared in the final 2023 statistical rankings. The Bearcats were No. 20 with a 3.29 strikeouts-to-walks ratio, No. 36 with 1.45 doubles per game, No. 45 with a .380 on-base percentage and No. 49 with a .297 batting average. Binghamton also ranked first in the America East Conference in all four statistical categories.

Binghamton finished 29-18 in 2023. In the process, the Bearcats tied for the fourth-highest win total in program history.
