CAMBRIDGE, Mass.. –
Jake Restivo, who recently concluded his stellar track & field career, has been named the 2022-23 America East Man of the Year. The announcement was made on Wednesday evening by the conference office.
The America East Man and Women of the Year Awards are presented annually to a graduating male and female senior student-athlete who has best distinguished himself and herself throughout their collegiate career in the areas of academic achievement, athletic excellence, service and leadership.
Restivo is the second Binghamton male athlete to be named the America East Man of the Year. He joins Joe Miceli – also from the track & field program – who was chosen for the 2016-17 academic year.
"It's an amazing honor to represent Binghamton track & field by receiving this Man of the Year award," Restivo said. "It's an unreal ending to an extremely fortunate and hard-fought career based on where I started. I'm extremely thankful for everyone that has helped me get to this point in my journey and I'm especially thankful to my parents for helping me become the man I am today."
During his career, Restivo was a five-time America East All-Conference selection in the long jump as well as the 2022 Indoor Meet Champion. This past academic year, Restivo was the runner up in the long jump at the America East Indoor Meet and was third at the outdoor championships. In addition, Restivo was the 2021 IC4A Outdoor Champion in the same event.
In the classroom, Restivo was inducted into the National College Athlete Honor Society in May 2021. This past March, he was named to the America East All-Academic Team for the indoor track season. Furthermore, Restivo was chosen to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team last month.
In the Binghamton community, Restivo has been part of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), the Binghamton Voter Registration Club and has volunteered at the American Alzheimer's Foundation. For the past three years, Restivo has also been a Neuroscience Research Assistant on campus.
"Jake is a fantastic athlete and competitor and an even better person," head track & field coach
Mike Thompson said. "He is the epitome of what a student-athlete should be, and this award is the perfect conclusion to what has been one of the greatest careers in Binghamton Track and Field history."
Last month, Restivo earned the Binghamton Athletic Department's Jake Pitler Award, which is given annually to a graduating male senior student-athlete. The Pitler Award – like the America East Man of the Year Award – factors in athletic and academic accomplishments and community-based involvement.
