Bearcats and Colonials square off Thursday at 5 p.m.

STORY LINES

- Binghamton begins its 22nd season competing at the NCAA Division I level. The Bearcats have also been a member of the America East Conference since 2002.

- The Bearcats return 15 letterwinners and welcome 12 newcomers this season. Among the new players are seven transfers and five true freshmen.

- Binghamton finished the 2022 season 6-9-4 (3-2-2 AE) but ended the year on a 6-3-2 run. During their last 11 matches, the Bearcats' only three setbacks were against nationally-ranked teams. Binghamton concluded the season by advancing to the America East semifinals for the first time since 2015.

- Senior forward Markos Touroukis is the Bearcats' top retuning scorer, having netted seven goals and finished with 11 total points in 2022. Redshirt season midfielder Anthony Lazaridis finished last season with four goals and nine total points while graduate student back Devin Heanue had two goals and four assists for eight total points.

- Binghamton's defense is anchored by Heanue and fellow graduate students Michael Bush and Will Noecker in the backfield. All four Bearcat goalkeepers are new this season, with graduate student Dylan McDermott having emerged first on the depth chart.

- Playing in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA), William & Mary went 5-7-6 (3-3-3 CAA) in 2022. In the 2023 CAA Preseason Poll, the Tribe was picked to finish sixth.

- A pair of William & Mary players have earned Preseason All-CAA honors. Midfielder Alfredo Bozalongo is a two-time second-team All-CAA selection, having scored seven goals and tallied 10 assists during his career. At the back position, Cole Knapp earned third-team honors in 2022.

- This will mark the first time ever that Binghamton and William & Mary have squared off in men's soccer.

- For the second straight season, the Bearcats open up against an opponent from the CAA. Last year, Binghamton squared off against James Madison on Aug. 25. The Dukes won that match 3-1.

- Since 2016, Binghamton has gone 5-2 in its season-opening match. The last road victory to open a season was a 2-1, double-overtime triumph at Colgate on Aug. 26, 2021.

- Aug. 24 is the earliest that Binghamton has played its first regular-season match. The Bearcats also opened play on Aug, 24 in 2018, losing 3-2 at Drexel.
