Men’s Soccer Heads To Top-Ranked Syracuse

Bearcats square off against defending NCAA Champs Monday at 7 p.m.

STORY LINES

- Binghamton (0-1-0) was edged 2-1 at William & Mary in its season opener on Thursday evening. Junior forward Mael Lopes scored the Bearcats' goal in the 26th minute and graduate student midfielder Jack Green was credited with the assist. In goal, graduate student Dylan McDermott made six saves in his Binghamton debut.

- McDermott, Lopes and Green were three of the six newcomers in the Bearcats' starting lineup. They were joined by freshman midfielder Alex Balkey, freshman forward Anthony Randazzo and sophomore midfielder Calvin Moe

- Syracuse (1-0-0) defeated visiting Providence 2-0 in its season opener on Thursday night. Lorenzo Boselli netted both goals in the opening 13 minutes of the match. Dating back to last season, the Orange now has a 15-game unbeaten streak. 

- Syracuse is the defending NCAA champions. The Orange beat Indiana in the decisive shootout in the title game last year to win its first-ever crown.

- This marks the second time in its history that Binghamton will face the defending NCAA champions. The Bearcats squared off against Maryland on Aug. 27, 2006 and were defeated 3-0. Like Syracuse, the Terps were also the top-ranked team in the nation when they faced Binghamton.

- Syracuse leads the all-time series against Binghamton 7-2-0. Most recently, the Orange took a 7-0 home decision on Sept. 14, 2021. The Bearcats' last victory over Syracuse was a 2-1 road triumph back on Sept. 27, 2011.

- During its 22-year NCAA Division I history, Binghamton has posted six wins over nationally-ranked teams. Most recently, the Bearcats defeated No. 23 New Hampshire 2-1 on Sept. 29, 2018.
