VESTAL, N.Y. -- Sophomore goalkeeper
Jack Root has been named the America East Defensive Player of the Week. It marks the first time in his career that he has earned the conference's weekly accolade.
In his first start since transferring from Concord last year, Root recorded four saves in the Bearcats' 0-0 tie against No. 18 New Hampshire on Saturday. He made a pair of diving saves from close range, including one in the 86th minute to preserve the deadlock and give Binghamton an important point in the America East standings.
Root is the first Bearcat to be named the America East Defensive Player of the Week since
Mats Roorda was honored on Oct. 10, 2022.
Binghamton (2-4-1, 0-0-1 AE) heads to No. 24 Hofstra on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. non-conference match.
