Volleyball Falls to Colgate 3-0

Scully posts third double-double of the season

VESTAL, N.Y. (BUBearcats.com) - The Binghamton University volleyball team fell to Colgate 3-0 (22-25, 18-25, 13-25) inside West Gym Tuesday night. The loss drops the Bearcats to a 6-8 season record. 

Despite the Raiders' sweep, both teams remained relatively equal in the major statistical categories. Colgate led BU by just one in points and kills while Binghamton led by one in assists and digs. 

Lottie Scully highlighted action for the Bearcats, posting her third double-double of the season with 15 assists and 11 digs. 

Tsvetelina Ilieva recorded double-digit kills for the eleventh time this season with 17 kills and seven digs for 18.5 points. Ella Schabort followed her teammate with nine kills while Misa Dlouha hit at an impressive .600 clip with three kills.  

The first set was the most competitive, with both teams trading points until the Raiders went on a 4-0 run to jump ahead 17-14. The Bearcats were able to tack on eight more, saving a set point with a kill by Lydia Adam, before dropping the frame 25-22.

The Raiders furthered their command of the match in the second set, jumping out to an early 4-0. Colgate continued to increase its advantage, leading 11-4 until BU scored six consecutive points, in four kills by Ilieva and one by Anna Sprys, and shortened the gap to two at 11-9. 

Binghamton went on a 3-0 run to tie the stanza at 12 before CU put up 13 more points to the Bearcats six and claimed the set 25-18. 

Colgate ran away with the match in the third frame, holding BU to just 13 points and securing the 3-0 sweep on the road. 

Next up, the Bearcats will open up conference play at NJIT Friday in Newark, N.J. Match time is slated for 6 p.m.
