Volleyball Blanks Le Moyne at Home

Ilieva posts season-high 18 kills and six aces

VESTAL, N.Y. - The Binghamton University volleyball team (4-3) blanked visiting Le Moyne College 3-0 (25-14, 25-13, 25-20) inside West Gym Tuesday night. With the victory, BU snaps its three-game losing streak to improve to 4-3 on the season.

The Bearcats dominated the Dolphins in every statistical category, including 36-26 kills, 8-3 blocks and 36-22 digs.

Tsvetelina Ilieva posted a season-high 18 kills, six aces and three blocks. Just shy of a double-double with nine digs, Ilieva hit at an outstanding .552 clip and accounted for 26 points, her best numbers so far this fall.

Misa Dlouha added five kills for Bearcats at a .571 hitting percentage with four blocks while teammate Lydia Adam collected six kills with a .300 percentage. Danit Cohen and Zoe Myint split the action at setter, tallying 17 and 14 assists, respectively.

Binghamton got off to a hot start, jumping out to a 5-1 lead after Le Moyne scored the match's first point. The Dolphins continued to fight though, notching point after point until the Bearcats tallied six consecutive points to bring the frame to 16-10. BU went on another streak to make the set 20-11 before the home team closed out the stanza with five straight to win 25-14.

The Bearcat's second set went similarly to their first with BU taking an early 7-2 advantage. Binghamton then went on a 5-0 run to make the frame 12-4 and lead by eight points. The competitors traded points once again before the Bearcats made it 19-10 with three straight. Le Moyne was only able to tack on three more points before BU won the set 25-13.

The final set was the most competitive of the match with just a five point difference. Binghamton initially led the set 8-2 until Le Moyne came just one point shy of the lead at 13-12. The Bearcats posted four straight points to bring their advantage to five at 17-12. BU added to its lead once again with a three consecutive to make the frame 21-14. The Dolphins recorded six more points to the Bearcats four but still lost the set 25-20.

The Bearcats are back on the road at the Lehigh Steel Classic in Bethlehem, Pa. this weekend for another three-game slate.
